Not everything that you watch (on TV and otherwise) is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. A DVD most likely will

be recorded in this way, giving you discrete sound for the rear channels. Most television programming is available in Dolby Pro

Logic, which doesn’t present a very strong discrete signal to the rear speakers. Another thing to consider is that for most movies

and TV programs the main action is happening in the front and center speakers, with the rear speakers used primarily for sound

effects and ambience – not constant audio content.
