Symptoms:

Even though your printer may have previously worked with your computer:

  • The printer no longer responds after a print job is sent from the computer
  • An error message related to your print job appears either on your computer or your printer’s display
  • Your printer no longer appears in the list of available printers

Solution:

1. Ensure that your printer has the necessary supplies to print (i.e. paper and toner) and that all trays/doors on the printer are closed.

2. Power off your printer and then power it back on.  Try printing again.

3. Power off your printer and disconnect it from the computer.  Reinstall the driver for your printer.  After the driver installs, reconnect the printer and power it on.  Try printing again.

  • Windows: Drivers can be found either with the documentation that came with your printer or online.  A simple Google search of “[printer model] driver” will help you find it.
  • Mac: Apple computers should auto-load the correct driver after click “+” on the printers & Scanners pane.

If the problem persists, further troubleshooting is necessary.
